District TOSAs
Teachers on Special Assignment (TOSAs) are credentialed educators who serve in specialized, non-classroom roles to support teaching and learning across the district. They work directly with teachers, principals, and district staff to strengthen instruction, provide professional learning, and help implement district initiatives.
Typical responsibilities include:
- Coaching and mentoring teachers in research-based instructional strategies
- Leading professional development sessions and collaborative planning
- Supporting the rollout of new curriculum, instructional resources, and assessments
- Modeling lessons and co-teaching in classrooms
- Analyzing student data to guide instruction and intervention
- Collaborating with site and district leadership to align practices with district goals
While TOSAs do not have their own classroom of students, their work has a direct impact on student achievement by building the capacity of teachers and ensuring consistent, high-quality instruction throughout the district.
Educational Technology & Assessments TOSA
The Educational Technology & Assessments Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA) helps schools use technology to improve teaching, learning, and student access to resources. She focuses on supporting students identified as English Learners (EL), Socioeconomically Disadvantaged (SED)/ Low-Income (LI), and Foster Youth (FY), so every student has the tools they need to succeed.
She manages digital instructional materials and program licenses, ensures teachers can access and use online curriculum and assessments, and provides training on how to use technology effectively in the classroom. They support key assessments, like i-Ready Reading and Mathematics in grades K–12, to help identify students who need extra support and guide schools in responding to their needs.
The Educational Technology & Assessment TOSA also coaches teachers, models lessons, and leads professional development so staff can make the most of digital tools. Her work ensures technology is used to engage students, personalize learning, and improve outcomes for all.
