City Council to Take Action Tonight on Bringing Cannabis Business to Morgan Hill

The District would like to make you aware of an opportunity to express yourself at the Morgan Hill City Council Meeting tonight. Whether you agree or disagree with the Governing Board's Resolution (attached) and the District's efforts to prevent the cannabis industry from setting up businesses in Morgan Hill, we encourage you to attend this meeting before the City Council acts on the Planning Commission and City Staff recommendation to allow the cannabis industry in our city. If they act on the recommendation, it is final. The public will NOT get a chance to vote on this.

The 7:00 p.m. meeting is tonight, November 6 at  17555 Peak Avenue, Morgan Hill, CA 95037.

Despite the information we have sent the City Manager and Planning Commission pointing to the increased drug use among our youth, the City of Morgan Hill is now on the verge of opening the door to retail, commercial, and/or manufacturing of cannabis and the City Staff is recommending only a barrier of 600 feet from schools. Cannabis is proven to create abnormal brain development when used by adolescents. It is also tied to schizophrenia and other mental illnesses. Even though such industry is targeting adults who are 21 years and older, supply proximity is proven to increase the youth access.

Attached you will also see a bibliography of reports and studies which were also sent to the City Staff and the agenda item itself (Item 10). The back up for the item is linked here and scroll to page 126 and read to page 246 of this  Agenda Packet.
